Tom,
Yeah, RICHER, that's what we've been saying all along! Seems to me that most folks do it for the backfire reduction, but I noted the increased performance as my main reason to do it. Of course, every time I try to rich it up a bit, I then do something to decrease back-pressure (first I drilled some holes in the baffle, my latest boondoggle was to install a stock '99 DynaGlide muffler (see previous post entitled "latest mods")), which, of course, brings the backfire back! I guess sooner or later I'll have to rejet. Then again, I'm not smart enough about dynos (nor rich enough afetr talking to a couple shops...) to know what the "measurable difference is.... I just go for what feels good.
BTW, when I punched the holes in the baffle, my top end came up to 85+mph. Then when I removed the spacer, it went down, but performance between 0 and 80 was better, and with less backfire. With the Dyna muffler, perfromance is good, top end is back to around 85mph, but the backfire is back (now, though, usually when I roll back the throttle concurrent to shifting- not so much upon decceleration!?). I think I'm about where I want to be, but I'll probably start tinkering with the airfilter box next! Let me know what you find out about venting it.
KTRSD
